Re: ETHICS and RESPONSIBILITY in $cientology
From: warrior@xenu.ca (Warrior)
In article <i1nilq$5mc$1@news.eternal-september.org>, Honest Abe says...
My first substantial ARC break (break in affinity, reality, and
communication - a significant disagreement) with the Cult of $cientology
occurred when I was rudely berated by a truly autocratic "Ethics Officer"
for being late by about 10 minutes when taking a course.
I explained that the subway train I was on was stuck in the tunnel for about
20 minutes. This was rejected with even more harshly abusive, demeaning
language. It seems that $cientology dogma, which MUST be accepted if you are
a $cientologist in good "ethical" standing, states that you and you alone
are responsible for your circumstances. I was supposed to know there could
be a delay, and allow time for it. If I did that I would have been there at
least 30 minutes early every day. Even employers, people that PAY YOU to
work for them, are more understanding that there are circumstances beyond
one's control. The fact is that in the Cult of $cientology YOU PAY THEM, but
they act as if they own you more than any sane employer ever would. What
colossal arrogance!
I should have told them where to go and demanded my money back right then
and there, but I was a "spiritual seeker" hooked on Dianetics, so I jumped
through their hoops of making amends, etc., to continue with the course.
I only found their promised "total freedom" when I finally freed myself of
this abusive, unscrupulous cult! I managed to get back a nice sum of money
I had on account too, but it wasn't easy. I had help from another
ex-$cientologist that was once on staff but got screwed over by them and
left.
Your experience is unfortunately all too common.
Back when I was still under Hubbard's spell in the '70s I managed to
convince my mother to start a basic service at the Austin Organization.
The cult blew her off fast with their heavy-handed "ethics handling"
when she didn't show up for course one evening. The cult demanded that
she be there _every_ night, but being a Singles Chat">single mom with two daughters
who needed her support didn't always allow her to spend every evening
at the brainwashing factory.
I'm glad they applied "standard ethics handling" on her. It saved her
lots of money and spared her from their lunacy.
