FDA is a corrupt organizationFrom: Jason@nospam.com (Jason) below was taken from one of the hits which was from wikipedia: Retrieved from ":CKelly/FDA_conspiracy_theories" Believers usually hold that the FDA is a corrupt organization and serves the aims of the large pharmaceutical companies instead of the population, as they are supposed to. Often, believers of this theory also believe that the FDA and pharmaceutical companies are actively suppressing known cures for serious diseases such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer's Disease, and many others. It is also claimed that drug companies (with help from the FDA) are attempting to get herbal products pulled off the market so that the population is forced to treat disease using pharmaceutical drugs, thus increasing the industry's profits. Some believers claim that if people are given knowledge of and access to herbal remedies, the pharmaceutical companies would go out of business. Since the FDA covers food as well as medicine, it has been claimed that the food industry is including ingredients intended to make people fat and/or addicted to the food. Skeptics point out that making people fat is not in the best interest of the food industry because when people gain weight, they generally go on diets and eat less food. However, people with extra weight tend to have more reasons to seek medical help. From Jason: I know about two products that the FDA has prevented from being sold in America. One of the products is PYRIDOXAMINE which is a form of Vitamin B6. In January of 2009, the FDA classified this potent entirely safe CKD therapeutic as a DRUG, putting it out of reach for many Americans suffering from kidney disease. This natural form or Vit. B6 has been shown to significantly improve outcomes for patients that have received kidney transplants and patients that have various types of kidney disease. A drug company is hoping to make PYRIODOXAMINE into a medication. I wonder how much money the drug company paid the FDA to make the decision to prevent this form of B6 from being sold in health food stores. As far as I know, the FDA has still not allowed a medication called STREPTOCOCCUS MUTAN to be sold in America. I read about this medication in Popular Science magazine. This medication was developed by Jeffrey Hillman. In the article, he was interviewed and stated that (at that time) he was fighting a battle with FDA and they refused to allow his medication to be sold in America. The medication was designed to KILL bacteria in the mouth. Since bacteria is the cause of many problems in the mouth such as cavities and various types of gum diseases such as periodontal diseases--there were lots of internet rumors indicating that dentists and periodontists contacted the FDA and told the FDA to NOT allow the medication to be sold since it was "dangerous". The real reason was because they wanted to keep their jobs. The dentists and periodontists were concerned that the medication called STREPTOCOCCUS MUTAN would put them out of business. The FDA took the side of the dentists and periodontists and would not allow the medication to be sold. As of Jan/2008 the medication was not yet approved by the FDA. I hope that the FDA has (by now) approved this medication to be sold. jason
