I've got one of they battery operated can-openers. You just stick it
on top of the can edge and press the button.
It zaps round the can and when the note changes you press the off
button lift it off. Most times an inbuilt magnet lifts off the lid
too.
Apart from the sheer idleness of it all, it leaves a lovely clean cut,
totally unsharp and virtually impossible to hurt yourself on it.
It occasionally fails on very small squarish tins.
You and take both ends off spam or corned beef tins and slide out the
contents with impunity
I haven't got any impunity. However: I generally use the scored strip to
wind-off the joinybit and after washing the empty can and top bit, with
pliers, turn over about a millimetre of the sharp edges and expand the
top's girth a tad. Voila! A slightly tapered retangular receptacle with lid.
I don't eat spam or canned corn beef. I buy meat in little styrofoam trays
coverred in cellophane. I use my fingernail or a knife to open. Actually I don't
eat much canned food at all.
