# And $200,000 in medical bills?

*THAT* part I'm not surprised about in the least. Why not? 2-3 years
back I was involved in a horse accident that resulted in 6 broken ribs
(one of them in three places/into four pieces), bruised spleen, and a
bruised lung. Basically caved in the whole left side of my chest. I was
delivered to the ER by my boss in his private vehicle, had x-rays taken
that showed "yep, 6 ribs busted", and got shipped upstairs for three
days of I.V. pain-control and "potential lung collapse/pneumonia
development" watch. During those three days, I ate a whole three meals
(those heavy-duty opiates sure kill the appetite, lemme tell ya!) and
since I'm a heavy smoker, was supplied with three nicotine patches. No
other treatment - they don't even tape busted ribs anymore, apparently.

Total bill-out for my little "vacation": over $127,000. The part that
left me totally speechless when I looked at the breakdown was the fact
that each of the three nicotine patches were billed at $87.50! When
"street price" for the same dose/brand is 21 patches for $62 AFTER tax.
Talk about "looking for a payday"...

All I could say when I saw the bill-out was "thank gawd for workman's
comp coverage!" (Yes, it was most definitely work-related - I was trying
out a new horse for the stable I worked for to find out if he'd be
useful in our lesson program. Needless to say, he was judged
"unsuitable" after he "went rodeo" on me. A couple cowboy types who
thought he looked great snatched him up a few days after I got out of
the hospital. As far as I'm concerned, he should have been put in an
Alpo can, but maybe that's just my bias talking...)

# And the bullet is still in? And 10 days in the hospital? I had a
# triple bypass on a Wednesday and went home on Saturday. And whining
# about the costs? What no insurance?

Looked at the price of health insurance lately?

# I think this mutt is an anti looking for a payday.

Can't argue with that concept.
